Critical Medical, Aviation, Automotive, Manufacturing, and Defense Industries Can’t Reach Their Full Potential Without Innovative Battery Technology
NextGen Battery Technologies announces the extension of its all-solid state, non-flammable technology to lithium primary (non-rechargeable) batteries. Cells incorporating this technology – which can outperform current industry standards of safety, energy density, cost, and sustainability – are helping the medical, defense, aviation, automotive, power generation, and manufacturing industries develop pioneering new discoveries in their respective fields.
“Our battery innovation is significant, marking the first demonstration of a successful, all-solid state, primary battery suitable for a wide range of high-performance applications including medical equipment (implants/sensors), defense technologies (aircraft/drones), and diverse industrial/commercial products,” said NextGen CEO and Founder Michael Booth, an energy sector veteran and former General Electric developer.
“Consider how the rapidly advancing automotive industry is producing new electric vehicles, as EV sales are expected to grow exponentially and break new records in the coming years. In the medical field, implantable sensors are revolutionizing interventions and therapies. Other mobility applications and solar, wind, geothermal and tidal power all require safe, scalable, and cost-effective energy storage,” Booth explained. “As exciting, cutting-edge new applications are transforming these fields and other sectors, one thing remains true: these critical industries cannot reach their full potential without innovative new battery technology.”
NextGen’s work extending non-flammable, solid-state electrolyte technology to lithium primary batteries comes at a crucial time for the industry. New transportation regulations currently under development place safety requirements on lithium primary batteries, such as Li-CFx and Li-MnO2 designs, that are as demanding as those for rechargeable Li-Ion batteries. However, the significantly higher energy density of lithium primary batteries makes meeting restrictions on flammability and cell-to-cell propagation even more difficult to achieve.
NextGen is uniquely developing products that are readily adaptable across many applications, allowing numerous industries to continue innovating and developing the next game-changing discoveries.
The company’s key innovations include:
• Patented high-energy density cobalt-free cathode
• Patent-pending dendrite-blocking solid-state electrolyte
“We are very excited about numerous opportunities with commercial partners, who are depending on our products’ safety and performance to enhance their own innovations,” Booth continued. “It’s extremely rewarding to see how our high-voltage cathode and lithium metal-compatible, solid-state electrolyte technologies combine to address current challenges across various sectors, as we imagine how they will help fulfill our partners’ future aspirations.”
